Parcours des années 30

parcours années 30

During the inter-war years, Boulogne-Billancourt experienced an architectural golden age with its many buildings of International design that are scattered throughout the Princes district. The biggest names in 30s architecture are now enshrined in the city’s history: Le Corbusier, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Georges-Henri Pingusson...
This tour is intended to discover some of the unique works, the product of a close relationship between architects and their clients. These individual Villas are most often commissions from artists such as the Russian sculptor Oscar Miestchaninoff, movie star Albert Prejean or the French painter Alfred Lombard (who carried out the interior decoration of the famous ocean liner "Le Normandie").

The Albert Kahn Gardens

[caption id="attachment_7769" align="alignnone" width="362"]Albert - Kahn Albert - Kahn[/caption]

Thanks to his fortune, Albert Kahn (1860-1940), a banker originally from Marmoutier, was able to undertake the creation of "garden scenes" on a 4-hectare plot northwest of the city.

Thanks to learned contrasts and several delicate transitions, visitors can discover a Japanese tea garden, an Anglo-Norman meadow and its cottage, a formal garden in the perspective of a rose garden... or a real Vosgienne forest less than 10 minutes from the Eiffel Tower!
The most recent part of this encyclopedic garden was designed around a lake by Japanese landscape architect Fumiaki Takano. It pays tribute to Albert Kahn and his ideal of universal peace.
